Pottery Barn style on a shoestring budget....

Can't believe I did this myself and how easy it was.

I have 2 kids moving in to apt's of their own,

so I'm attempting to help them with some furniture

that is inexpensive but updated.

There are so many talented blogger's out there

who do amazing things with furniture,

so I decided to give it a whirl.

First off I had to find some furniture....

$10 for all 3 tables...score.

These had great masculine lines for my son Bret.

He was ok with them when I pulled them off the truck...

.........and now

he thinks they are great!

I believe he said,

"that's exactly what

I wanted, seriously Mom, how'd you do that!?"

Made my day.

Isn't it fun to attempt new things
and have them turn out so well?
I'll take a picture when I have all 3 done. :)

Happy Birthday USA and a flag holder tutorial...

Flag holder tutorial~

Find a piece of wood

and a piece of decorative molding.

I had both of these in the garage. :)

I placed the molding on where I wanted it to be...

I never measure anything...

I like to eyeball, it's quicker that way!

You can measure if you want...

I marked where I wanted to drill the holes for my flags.

Get a quick lesson for your Hubby on how to run the drill.

I started by drilling down about 1/4"

and then I went in at and angle.

The first time I drilled them I forgot to pivot

the drill so the flags would fan out.

So.... I just re-drilled at the correct angles.

Once it was hung on my porch gable

you couldn't see my mistake. :)

Get out your spray paint and

spray away!

I wanted my molding to POP

so I painted it white!

I glued the molding on with Elmer's wood glue.

I then dipped each of the flag ends in the

glue and inserted them in the holes.

I skipped this step on the holder I made for my parent's.

Mom wanted to be able to remove the flags for easier storage.

Make sure you adjust the flags so they

drape nicely before the glue dries.

If you don't like climbing high on a ladder,

find your hubby and have him hang it for you!

So thankful mine is handy,

he is always willing to help me out!

After Hubby hangs it for you

Pour both of you a Iced tea or lemonade,

light the candles on the porch and sit down and enjoy

Old Glory blowing in the breeze.

I only had to purchase the flags!

Everything else I found out in the garage.

It was just what I needed to

dress up my porch for summer!

I made one for my Mom and Dad, too

It ties in nice with my spinning

flag holder centerpiece.

It was fun to make, after I figured

out what angle to drill the holes. ;)

I'll post a tutorial later,

if anyone is interested.

I love the patriotic punch

it gave to my porch.

It is staying up right

through Labor Day!

We spend so much time on our porch.

I took this pictures as the sun was setting the other night.

Love to light the candles in the evening.

It's fun to spin!

I have a lot of red on my porch ,
but decided to add more blue this year.
I have had lime green with the red in
the past, so the blue is a nice change this year.

The garage sale porch swing
is the favorite seat
of everyone this summer.

I have red and blue throughout my house
so it's fun to put little patriotic
touches here and there.

All of the blue transferware was a garage sale find
a couple of weeks ago.
$3.00 for all of it!
Just what my red hutch needed
for the 4th.

I'm looking forward to spending the
weekend with 3 of the kids and my Hubby.
Just missing our oldest and his wife!
We will all be together in about a month
and that will be a reason to celebrate
all on it's own.

Patriotic Project #1...FLAG STAND!

I love how this turned out...

Mine even spins! Woohoo!

I can see using this for many different things. I'm sure I'll be making new flags and changing it out for the seasons. It would be great to personalize a shower with photo's of a couple and I can see a cute pair of baby booties in the shadow box.
